Week 2 of the XFL started with New York Guardians visiting the DC Defenders. Both teams entered the match up with a 1-0 record and QBs Matt McGloin and Cardale Jones had solid performances. However, only one team remained unbeaten.

The Defenders improved their record to 2-0 by defeating the Guardians 27-0. Jones led the Defenders completing 23-of-37 passes, 276 passing yards, and two touchdown passes. His QBR was 91.7. Jones threw a 13-yard pass to Thompkins for a touchdown in the first quarter. The defense kept the Guardians offense from scoring by providing pressure on McGloin and stopping the majority of the plays. The defense had three sacks, six total tackles for a loss, and two interceptions. In the third quarter, McGloin attempted a pass to Pearson but was intercepted by Thurman at the NY 46. Thurman ran it back for the "Pick 6" touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Jones passed to Hayward for a 6-yard touchdown with 1:29 left of the game.

The Guardians were held to 137 total yards. The offense did not reach the red zone, was 1-for-11 on third down conversion, and had 5 first downs. McGloin did not look like the QB we had seen last week. He threw 8-of-19 completions, 44 passing yards, and two interceptions. He was later benched and M. Williams took over the snaps. McGloin was interviewed by ESPN's Dianna Russini about the performance and here is what he had to say - "We need to change the whole entire game plan at halftime...There is a whole lot going on right now... it's embarrassing for us... Later, Dianne spoke with Head Coach Kevin Gilbride and he stated, "I need to go talk to him and figure out what the problem is because he needs to play better."

After halftime, McGloin performed worse in which he threw an interception resulting in a Pick 6.

Credit the Defender's defense. They did a solid job. On the other side, Coach Gilbride must get the team back on track and restore their confidence in moving forward.

Week 3: DC Defenders will travel for the first time and visit the LA Wildcats; NY Guardians travel to STL Battlehawks.
