Kamala passes away
The wrestling community is saddened to learn of the passing of James Harris, better known as Kamala. He passes away at age 70.
The six-foot 380-pound superstar battled against the greats during his time with WWE to include Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, The Texas Tornado, and The Ultimate Warrior. Here are the additional notable matches:
August 25th, 1984 - WWF debut - defeated Chief Jay Strongbow
December 26, 1986 - first loss to Hulk Hogan in a disqualification match for the WWF Heavyweight Title
March 21, 1987 - first time as a tag team with Sika.
According to Pro Wrestling Fandom, on November 2017, Harris underwent life-saving emergency surgery to clear fluid from around his heart and lungs at a hospital in Oxford, Mississippi. Since 2011, Harris had health issues that forced him to retire. He had diabetes which led complications of his left leg amputated. Harris also had high blood pressure.
Kamala was a great talent in the ring. He was managed by the greatness of Freddie Blassie, Mr. Fuji, Jimmy Hart and many others. His signatures moves we can never forget - Backhand chop, Headbutt, Overhead chop, Savate Kick, Two-handed chokelift, and Two-handed forward throat thrust. Kamala's signature move was the Air Africa (Running or diving splash).
