Monday Night Raw Review 05.25

05/26/2020

Apollo Crews defeated Andrade in the United States Championship.

Crews captured his first championship title in WWE. He demonstrated the power in the ring by lifting Andrade in the air, slamming him down, and hitting a combination of the standing shooting star and standing moonsault for the win.

It is a long time coming for Crews as he finally got out of a slump to be a champion. He debuted WWE on April 4th, 2016, Monday Night Raw and went on a 13 singles match winning streak. Then, his career came to a halt as he could not contend versus the most prominent stars such as Chris Jericho, Rusev, The Miz, A.J. Styles, Dolph Ziggler, and more. There was a point where it seemed as though Crews was a jobber, allowing other superstars to pass him. Crews stayed strong, trusted the process, and now he is the new United States Champion.

The IIconics

Billie Kay and Peyton Royce settled their difference. Last week, Kay slapped Royce after losing to Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in the tag team championship. They forgave each other and set their focus on the tag team titles again. Bliss & Cross came out to respond and things got physical.

The Women's Tag Team Title match should be added to Backlash. There is no official word yet.

Angel Garza defeated Kevin Owens.

Owens was hampered by a knee injury caused by Garza. Garza attacked Owens from behind before the match started causing damage. During the match, Garza took advantage and was able to overcome any obstacle. He boldly stomped on Kevin Owens, hitting the Wing Clipper to get the win.

In the United States Championship match, Garza observed Crews and Andrade. The victory over Owens is significant and it is a matter of time that he can get his eyes on the prize. Will there be another animosity in Zelina Vega's corner (Andrade and Vega)?

I predict a Garza vs. Crews match soon.

The Street Profits and Viking Raiders play miniature golf.

Murphy and Austin Theory defeated Humberto Carrillo and Aleister Black.

Two areas that I observed is who does the pinning and who is laid on their backs. In this case, Theory pinned Carrillo after executing the ATL finishing move. Theory gains momentum as he elevates his stardom with the Messiah. Carrillo took the fall and that protects Black's value as "The Harbinger of Fury."

Black is set to take on Seth Rollins next week.

Nia Jax wins the triple threat match over Natalya and Charlotte.

Jax went against all the odds. She hit the leg drop on Charlotte to avoid a submission attempt from Charlotte to Natalya in the figure-eight lock. Then, Jax executed the Samoan Drop on Natalya for the win.

Jax is the number one contender for the Women's Raw Championship and will challenge the champion, Asuka, at Backlash.

The Street Profits win by disqualification over MVP and Bobby Lashley.

Lashley avoided the referee's count and instructions while applying the full nelson on Montez Ford. The referee called for the bell and Drew McIntyre came out and brawled with Lashley. Like any other super heavyweights in the WWE, it took several NXT superstars and trainees to get in the ring and separate the two.

Next week:

Aleister Black vs. Seth Rollins

Rey Mysterio will have his Retirement Ceremony.
