New Years Evil Review

Karrion Kross defeated Damian Priest

Priest held on longer than any NXT superstar that had faced Kross in the past (Keith Lee & Tommaso Ciampa).  But as expected, Kross delivered a Saito suplex and a running forearm to the back of the next that resulted in a pin.

I predicted Kross to win.  His journey continues to chase the title.  On the other hand, Priest did what he could do but fell short.  Will he return to his own path and feud with Johnny Gargano? Or, will he enter the Royal Rumble and cause chaos?

Santos Escobar (C) defeated Gran Metalik

I was super wrong about this match card.  I believed that the Lucha House Party would permanently stay in NXT.  That would had been an awesome feud with the Fantasma.  However, it may look like a fill in until Escobar meets a real opponent for the Cruiserweight title.  Escobar applied the Phantom Driver for the win.

It would be great to see the Lucha House Party take part in next week's Dusty Rhodes Classic.  However, expect them to hop around to different WWE brands.  For Escobar, he will continue to promote himself as greatness.  He will manage Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde should they enter the tag team tournament.

Xia Li defeated Katrina Cortez

Although this was not considered a real match, it was most a new presence to show the WWE Universe that Li is back.  Li has a new attitude, a new look, and a new direction set in NXT.

Raquel Gonzales defeated Rhea Ripley (Last Woman Standing)

I enjoyed this match.  I believe the match stole the show.  Gonzales outshined Ripley in all phases.  She demonstrated her physical abilities, stamina, and strength to dominate Ripley.  The match was a defining moment to pass the torch to the next best NXT superstar.  Gonzales powerbombed Ripley through the front stage of the entrance.  Both superstars fell through but it was Raquel that came out and was the last woman standing.

Tommaso Ciampa vs Timothy Thatcher

-Postponed-

Thatcher suffered an injury during his workout and was listed as unable to compete.  General Manager William Regal stated that the match will happen on a later date.

Kushida and Shotzi Blackheart defeated Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae.

Finn Balor (C) defeated Kyle O'Reilly

Balor backed his words up and stated that he would break O'Reilly's jaw.  Throughout the match, Balor was successful as he kept stomping on him.  The match did go back and forth but at the end, The Prince made O'Reilly tap out after applying an abdominal stretch while yanking at O'Reilly's jaw.

I do not know what will be next for O'Reilly.  He may take some time off and heal.  However, Balor will have a new opponent.  It is projected for Balor to defend the NXT Championship against Karrion Kross at NXT Takeover.
