Ovi's Top 25 vs. Coaches Poll: Who Got It Right?

By Ovi Muniz | HHWShow.com
College football is all about opinions, and nothing gets fans more fired up than a good Top 25 debate. With the preseason buzz in full swing, I've put together my Top 25 Rankings, and naturally, I had to compare them with the official Coaches Poll. Let's break down where the lists agree, where they clash, and what it all might mean heading into the season.
✅ Agreement at the Top (Kind Of)
-
Texas, Georgia, and Oregon are all top-tier programs in both rankings. Texas tops the Coaches Poll with 28 first-place votes, and I have them at #3 behind Oregon and Georgia. While the Coaches respect Texas's firepower, I see something special brewing in Eugene this year.
-
Alabama, LSU, and Ohio State continue to be mainstays in the top 10, though I'm slightly higher on Ole Miss and Michigan than the Coaches are.
🆚 Where We Part Ways
Here's where things get spicy:
-
Ole Miss is my #5 team. The Coaches dropped them to #15. Lane Kiffin's offense is lethal, and I expect them to make serious noise in the SEC.
-
Missouri and Florida State—big risers in my poll—don't crack the Coaches Top 25 at all. That's a miss. Missouri's physical play style and FSU's returning talent give them dark horse potential.
-
Arizona, Kentucky, and Wisconsin are all in my rankings but left out of the Coaches' picture. I'm betting on late-season surges from these programs.
🏈 Teams the Coaches Love… But I'm Not Sold On
The Coaches Poll has 10 teams that I didn't include in my rankings:
-
Miami, Arizona State, Illinois, SMU, Indiana, Kansas State, Iowa State, BYU, Texas Tech, Boise State
While some of these teams could surprise, I'm not ready to buy the hype—yet. Miami and Kansas State, for example, are rebuilding and have a lot to prove.
📉 Overrated or Underrated?
-
Penn State is #3 in the Coaches Poll, but I dropped them to #15. Great defense, yes—but questions remain at QB.
-
Notre Dame is always a poll darling, sitting at #5 in the Coaches ranking. I've got them at #12—talented, but inconsistent in big games.
🏆 The Bottom Line
Preseason rankings are a starting point, not a finish line. My Top 25 reflects a mix of potential, returning experience, and momentum. The Coaches Poll gives a more traditional view based on reputation and projections.
As the season unfolds, we'll find out who's right—and who's just wishful thinking.
Let the games begin.
