Reactions to the Anthem
The NFL plans to have the song "Lift Every Voice and Sing" -- known as the Black national anthem -- performed live or played before every game in Week 1 of the NFL season. The song was written as a poem by James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938) in 1900 and set to music by his brother J. Rosamond Johnson (1873-1954) in 1905. The National Anthem will be played afterwards.
CNN reported, "Additionally, the source says that the league is working collaboratively with players to recognize victims of systemic racism throughout the season. Among the items being discussed with players are adding names of victims on helmet decals or jerseys patches, as well as educational programs and storytelling (such as additional PSAs about the victims and their families)."
There are mixed emotions about the idea of having two national anthems. Is this a great idea? Is this segregation or an act on telling the nation, Black Lives Matter? What is your take on this subject? Leave your comments below.
