Red Sox struggle against Rangers; moves forward with the Tigers

For the first time since the season opener in Fenway Park, the Red Sox lost the series three games to one against the Texas rangers. In game one in the 6th inning, Rangers catcher Jose Trevino hit a two-run homer off of Pitcher Sawamura in which the team went up 3-1. Rangers would win 4-1. The only run Red Sox scored came in the top 6th inning when Devers doubled that allowed Verdugo to score. The Red Sox as a team batted .100. They only hit 3 times and went 1-for-5 in runners in scoring position.

In game 2, JD Martinez homered twice against starting pitcher Kohei Arihara. The Red Sox breezed through the game winning 6-1.

In game 3, The Red Sox were in the lead at the end of 5 innings 5-4. However, Matt Andriese could not hold the Rangers and gave up 3 earned runs. Willie Calhoun homered off Andriese and went 3 for 4. Rangers won 8-6. The Red Sox offense came alive, batting a .316. However, they could not capitalize when they had runners in scoring position. They went 4 for 13. Cordero, Verdugo, Devers, and Dalbec could not become clutch at the given moment.

And in game 4, The red sox had a 3-1 lead in the 7th but Garrett Whitlock gave up a home run in the bottom of the 7th by SS Isiah Kiner-Falefa.It is the first time in this season that Whitlock gave up a run. He completed the inning with the lead intact. However, Adam Ottavino came in relief and only pitched ⅔ inning and gave up three runs allowing the Rangers to comeback and win.

Bobby Dalbec IF .200 28K in 75AB 1HR 6RBI.

Jarren Duran ,prospect, Jeter Downs, prospect from Dodgers, and Danny Santana, veteran from Rangers, among Red Sox AAA roster that may soon get a call up. The minor league season starts on May 4th.

After giving up a home run, Garrett Whitlock resiliently completed the inning against the Rangers. Sooner or later he had to give a run. However, it is still left questionable on Josh Taylor and Adam Ottavino. Ottavino was considered to compete for a closer job. That job went to Matt Barnes as he looks impressive with a 2.51 ERA and 6 saves. Ottavino, Taylor, are the only pitchers in the bullpen with an ERA greater than 5. Taylor has given up 18 hits in 11 appearances. Ottavino has walked 9 batters in 10 IP.

Something has to change in the roster to boost up the lineup and reduce blown opportunities. In the Ranger series, the Red Sox as a team batted a .224. They were outscored 18-16 and struck out 31 times. That ties the second most in the series this season.

Look at the MLB Standings AL East.

Pitchers that will start will be

Game 1 Nick Pivetta vs TBD

Pivetta has had quite a success against the Tigers. Tigers are batting .069.

Game 2 Martin Perez vs Casey Mize

Perez has allowed Tigers to bat a .271. If he can get outs from Miguel Cabrera and Robbie Grossman, he will do fine. Tigers Casey Mize will face the Red Sox for the first time. He has only pitched to Marwin Gonzalez.

Game 3 Nathan Eovaldi vs Spencer Turnbull

Eovaldi has allied the Tigers to bat a .255. Wilson Ramos and Miguel Cabrera have batted well against Eovaldi. Tigers Spencer Turnbull has quite a success against the Red Sox. However, it seems as though he cannot see the ball or get his timing on straight with the bat.
