Red Sox sweep again
The red sox are on fire as they swept the Baltimore Orioles and are on top of the American East Standings by two games. In Game 1, E-Rod started his first game going 5 IP, striking out 7 and gave up 3 earned runs. But it was the bats of Christian Vasquez who went 3 for 5, and Rafael Devers coming out of the slump belting his first Home run in the season. Kike Hernandez also hit a home run off of Orioles pitcher Wells. The Red Sox won 7 to 3.
In game 2 of the series, Rafael Devers continued to bat away as he belted his second home run off of Orioles Pitcher Zimmerman. In the 10th inning, Orioles Dillon Tate came in relief. With Red Sox Outfielder Chavis at 3rd base, Tate threw a wild pitch allowing Chavis to score. Later, Christian Vasquez reached on an infield single to third that allowed Verdugo to score. The Red Sox would win 6 to 4.
In Game 3, Red Sox batters were on fire. This time, the Red Sox hit 6 home runs. JD Martinez hit 3 home runs, Rafael Devers 2 home runs and Verdugo hit one home run. The last time the team hit that many was on June 14, 2019 in Camden Yards. Red Sox win 14-9.
The Red Sox sweep two consecutive series and are bound to visit the Minnesota Twins in their next four game series before heading home to Fenway Park.
Notable Red Sox Roster
JD Martinez was listed on the COVID 19 related injured list on Saturday. I am assuming that all tests were negative because Martinez was in the lineup Sunday. He did not miss a beat as he hit three home runs. That totals up to 5 in the season. He also leads the team with 16 RBIs, 17 hits, and batting a .472. Christian Vasquez is hitting a .382and Xander Bogaertz a .375. Rafael Devers is raising his average up to a .250. He has 4 home runs with 10 RBIs.
In pitching, Eovaldom Pivetta, and Tanner Houck have looked impressive so far. However, there are concerns with Garrett Richard, Adam Ottavino, and Josh Taylor who have ERAs greater than 10. Austin Brice gave up 3ERs which almost allowed the Orioles back in the game. Valdez came in relief after Sawamura pitched an excellent hold in 1 ⅓ innings. Valdez gave up 2 Earned Runs until he got the final out.
On April 9, 2021 is a day to remember, especially San Diego Padres and their fans. Pitcher Joe Musgrove pitched a franchise first, no-hitter against the Texas Rangers, at Globe Life Field in Arlington Texas.
- The Red Sox will square off against the Minnesota Twins in a four game series
In game 1, Martin Perez vs Twins' JA Happ. Happ has done well against the Red Soxholding them to a .217 average. He has been able to control Xander Boegarts by striking out 10 times in 47 at bats. Martinez and Devers have struggled as well. However, Perez has been successful as well holding down the Twins to just a .159 average.
In game 2, Eovaldi 1-1 vs Kenta Maeda. Maeda has struggled as the Red Sox batters are hitting a .347 average.
In game 3, E-Rod will make his second start. While Jose Berrios will take the mound. Berrios is able to challenge the Sox as batters have only hit .259. Only Rafael Devers belted one home run against him.
And in the final game, Garrett Richards, who has a 10.29 ERA will square off against Michael Pineda who is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA. Pineda, who is also known with the Yankees, is very knowledgeable on the Red Sox. He pitches very well. The current roster for the Red Sox have not found an answer to surpass him. Hopefully, the Red Sox can have a different outcome.
The Red Sox are on a 6 game winning streak, 1st place in the AL East. The Twins have lost two straight and are tied in second with the Royals in the AL Central.
