Red Sox Sweep Marlins; tough week coming up


The Red Sox home stretch came to a short end as mother nature took its path and poured all over New England this weekend. The umpires called off the game 20 minutes into the rain delay and the Marlins and Red Sox will have a make-up game on June 7.

On Friday, the Red Sox defeated the marlins with Alex Verdugo hitting a three run homer in the fifth inning to make it a 5-2 game. However, the rain caused the stoppage in the 6 inning.

On Saturday, Fenway Park began their first break to have a max capacity crowd. The bats were swinging for both teams. But Nathan Eovaldi maintained his composure pitching 5 ⅓ innings striking out 7 batters and did not give up any runs.

The Red Sox won 3-1.

In the last week, JD Martinez batted a .333, hit 3 doubles and 2 RBIs. Devers batted a .333, 2 HRs with 5 RBIs. Although Xander Bogaerts had a slump, Hunter Renfroe has stepped up and batted a .467 with 1 HR and 4 doubles.

Overall, Martinez leads the team and the American League in batting average. Devers leads the team with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs.

Atlanta Braves outfielder Macell Ozuna Atlanta Braves Outfielder Marcell Ozuna was arrested Saturday and charged with felony assault after he choked his wife and threw her against a wall - AP. Ozuna's arrest came nearly a year to the date that his wife, Genesis, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.

No additional information has been provided but the MLB and the Atlanta Braves are monitoring the situation.

In the MLB Standings:

The Rays defeated the Phillies so they are up a game on the Red Sox. Rays won 15 of their last 16 games. Rays begin a four game series in the Bronx versus the Yankees. Red Sox travel to Houston for a four game series.

IN the the AL Central, White Sox lead three games over the Indians.

AL West, Oakland have lost five of their last 10 games but remain on top 2.5 on the Astros.

IN the NL East, Mets are on a four game winning streak and in first place.

NL Central, Cardinals and Cubs are getting hot in the division. Cardinals up a ½ a game.

And in the NL West, the Padres lead the division by 1.5 games. Giants and Dodgers are remaining on pace with the Padres.

On to the Red Sox schedule, The Red Sox start their 7 game road trip with the Houston Astros. Then, they will travel to the Bronx for a three game series with the Yankees. This is a crucial week and will need to win these series in order to move back on top in the AL East. The Yankees play the Rays in a four game series so with the Yankees help, Red Sox can take the lead.  But of course, we all have to focus on one game at a time.

Monday, Rodriguez will take the mound. He has struggled in his last three starts going 0-3. He has a 6.48 ERA in the month of May. E-Rod has struggled against the Astros as his opposing batters have an average of a .333
