Smackdown Preview 7.02

07/02/2021

On Smackdown, the main attraction will be Kevin Owens versus Sami Zayn in a Last Man Standing Money in the Bank Qualifying Match.  It seems as though there is only one slot left for the MITB Ladder match that is schedule to take place on July 18, at Dickies Arena, Fort Worth, Texas.  The event will mark the first live audience since March 2020 when the world began to shut down because of the coronavirus outbreak.

However, this is the not the first time Owens and Zayn battle in a last man standing match.  On March 30, 2012, Ring of Honor Showdown In The Sun, there names were Kevin Steen and El Generico.  Owens TKO'd Zayn.

Tonight, both superstars will fight for an opportunity to chase their championship dream again.

In the women's MITB Ladder Match, Asuka, Naomi, Alexa Bliss, Nikki ASH, and Carmella have their reservations.  Who else will qualify?  Liv Morgan, Mandy Rose, Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax are names that have potential to fill in the slots.  However, will WWE make a surprise announcement and consider Bayley or the absence of Sasha Banks?

Baron Corbin may have a new name tonight.  An approved trademark name is set for a new gimmick - Happy Corbin.  Which direction will Corbin go following the lost to Shinsuke Nakamura?

Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez are afloat and they need a new storyline with another superstar.  Despite the IC Champ Crews losing to Big E, will the IC title be defending the title tonight?  Can Big E receive another opportunity?

Edge surprised the WWE Universe with his appearance last week.  He assaulted Roman Reigns and speared Jimmy Uso.  Jimmy seeks acceptance to fill the void from his brother Jey Uso.  I see a match between Edge and Jimmy with Roman Reigns interfering.

But, what will happen with Seth Rollins?  He was disappointed during the Talking Smack episode when he found out Edge will challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship.  Rollins believes he should be the number one contender and his argument is valid.
