Vipers Record Their First Win

Tampa Bay Vipers earn their first win of the season as they shut out their opponent, DC Defenders 25 - 0. The game was one sided from the start as the Vipers ground game was all that was needed for victory. Vipers RBs Smith and Patrick combined rushed 45 attempts with a total of 230 rushing yards. Patrick and QB Cornelius each rushed for a touchdown. Cornelius did well in the passing game going 24-of-31 completions, 211 passing yards, one touchdown pass to Goolsby and threw one interception. He passed the ball to eight different receivers while pounding the ground game at the Defenders' defense.

On the other side, QB Cardale Jones and the rest of the Defenders struggle to get into the winning groove. The Defenders had a total of 107 yards and only six first downs. The team did not reach the red zone. Defenders started the season 2-0 and looked like Jones would be the MVP of the league. However, the last two games looked like the worst XFL team in history. Jones voiced his frustrations in the sideline but in the fourth quarter, he was benched and backup Jackson took the snaps. There was no difference in play.
