Who will be the final four in #CFBPlayoffs?

It was championship week in what has been a crazy pandemic year. The College Football Playoff Committee watched nine of ten conference championships (Sun Belt Championship canceled) and will decide which teams will compete for the playoffs. But while they submit their votes, you have coaches politicking their way to state that their teams deserve an opportunity. Here is the week 16 "Top Six" college teams result from last Tuesday:

  1. Alabama
  2. Notre Dame
  3. Clemson
  4. Ohio State
  5. Texas A&M
  6. Iowa State

Alabama defeated No. 7 Florida 52-46 that had four potential Heisman candidates in the game. Bama's QB Mac Jones went 33-of-43 418 passing yards, five touchdown passes. Najee Harris, named MVP in the SEC Championship, carried the ball 33 times, caught the ball five times with 245 total yards and five total touchdowns. Devonta Smith caught 15 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns.

Florida's Kyle Trask threw for 26-of-40 passes with 408 yards and three touchdowns. Also, he rushed for a touchdown score.

Alabama is more likely to be a lock for the No. 1 seed for the playoffs. Florida demonstrated improvement from the LSU loss with the potential to compete in a New Years Bowl.

Notre Dame and Clemson competed in a rematch for the ACC Championship. The game did not turn out to what many predicted. At halftime, Clemson had the lead 24-3. The rout continued as Clemson ended the Irish wishes to become ACC Champs 34-10. Clemson's QB Trevor Lawrence dominated the game, throwing 25-of-36 completions, 322 yards, and two touchdowns. He rushed 14 times for 124 yards and a rushing touchdown. Lawrence proved to everyone that he is the difference maker after missing out on the first meeting due to Covid-19.

Clemson should move up and lock themselves as the No. 2 seed. However, Notre Dame did not look like a playoff team, and the selection committee may have to reexamine their eye test and assessed how far the team would fall from the rankings.

Ohio State's second-half performance ran past Northwestern to a 22-10 win. Trey Sermon was the star of the show as he carried the ball 29 times, racked up 331 yards and two touchdowns. But the biggest concern is Justin Fields. For the second time against a ranked opponent, Fields did not play well. He threw 12-of-27 for 114 yards and two interceptions. Field's QB rating is the worst this season, with 34.7. Luckily, Sermon and the offensive linemen took it upon themselves and ran the ball. The Buckeyes are now 6-0, and as the selection committee chairman Gary Barta believes that the few games they played proved they are one of the best. Therefore, Ohio State should be a lock for the No. 3 seed.

Texas A&M did not play in the SEC Championship. However, they made a great impression by defeating Tennessee 34-13. Head Coach Jimbo Fisher believes the team should be in the college playoffs in his post-game interview. The Aggies only loss this season came in their second game of the season against Alabama 52-24. Since that game, Texas A&M won seven consecutive games.

Lastly, Iowa State lost to Oklahoma in their rematch. Even though Iowa State ranked No. 6, Oklahoma favored in the game and did not disappoint. The Sooners, led by Freshman QB Spencer Rattler, ended the Cyclones chances to be considered playoff contenders with a score of 27-21. Oklahoma wins their fourth straight title.

Other games:

(9) Cincinnati 27 (23) Tulsa 24

The question is, "Who will be the final four teams in the playoffs?"

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Ohio State
  4. Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Texas A&M

The Selection Committee will select the final four on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at noon ET.

Ovi's prediction: Notre Dame's head coach Brian Kelly has been on the news. He stated that the team would opt-out of the playoffs if the families could not attend the semi-finals. The Rose Bowl is moved from Pasadena, California, to AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Therefore, families can be at the game. But there is a small chance for the Irish to be selected after that horrific loss to Clemson.

Texas A&M has a greater chance to be the NO. 4 seed.

Cincinnati, 9-0, is the only undefeated team mentioned for the last spot. Unfortunately, the selection committee does not feel confident since they dropped them twice for not playing their games due to Covid-19.
