Who will be the next New York Giants Head Coach?

01/22/2022

The New York Giants hired former Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen. He replaced Dave Gettleman, who somehow retired after the completion of the season. The Giants are 19-46 in the last four seasons and the organization is looking for ways to bounce back as contenders and championship mode. Schoen has a challenging task ahead of him and the first thing is hiring a head coach.

Joe Judge was the head coach of the Giants but failed to accomplish his goal. He finished with a 10-23 in two seasons. The job was his first time as a head coach and will have another chance to head coach with more experience. In the meantime, four candidates were mentioned for an interview - Dan Quinn, Brian Flores, Leslie Frazier, and Patrick Graham.

Dan Quinn is a defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. He head coached the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons. In 2016, Quinn led the team to the Super Bowl. The Falcons blew a 25 point lead and lost Super Bowl LI. In 2020, Quinn was fired along with general manager Thomas Dimitroff after an 0-5 start. To hire Quinn would be taking a high risk. He had two winning season with the Falcons. At best, he is a great defensive coordinator.

Brian Flores is a former head coach of the Miami Dolphins. He was fired immediately after the season ended. This is a big surprise to Dolphins fans since Flores joined Don Shula as the only head coach in franchise history to beat the Patriots multiple times in Foxboro. Although Flores finished with a 24-25 in three seasons, the last two seasons were favorable, winning seasons. The previous head coach to have back-to-back winning seasons for the Dolphins was Dave Wannstedt (Wannstedt had four straight winning seasons from 2000-2003). Flores was a coach and a scout for the New England Patriots and won four Super Bowls. Flores has been the promising one out of so many coaches under New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Flores has the discipline and the respect to lead.

Leslie Frazier is an assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills. He is a former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings for four seasons. In 2012, Frazier led the team to a wild card game but lost to the Green Bay Packers. Frazier has super bowl experience - played with the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XX and coached with the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI.

Patrick Graham is an assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for the New York Giants. The Giants defense finished 12th in total yards allowed, tied 16th in passing yards with the Denver Broncos, and the 10th rushing yards allowed. Unfortunately, the Giants' offense could not produce to score points and win time of possession in a 17-game season. In the 2014 season, Graham was a linebacker coach for the New England Patriots, winning Super Bowl XLIX. He has never held a head coaching job in the NFL.

Who will Schoen choose to be the next New York Giants head coach? Here is my top pick:

1. Brian Flores

2. Other

3. Patrick Graham

4. Leslie Frasier

5. Dan Quinn, the last resort

The "other" means additional coaches may be interviewed for the head coaching position.
