WrestleMania 38 Champion Predictions

08/08/2021

The WWE Champions are always decided by management. Based on the skills, charisma, mainstream appeal and more, the company gives a direction for writers to create a storyline to give light on the hottest stars to take center stage. We are halfway into the year and the WWE is gearing up for Summerslam. But it is never too late to consider the possibility of what can happen for the next WrestleMania in April 2022. This blog pertains to predictions on each championship title reign that could be won by or at the next WrestleMania event.

WWE Universal Championship

On August 21, 2016, Summerslam in Brooklyn, NY, Finn Balor became the first superstar to win the Universal Championship. However, due to suffering a shoulder injury, Balor relinquished the title the day after and took time off for surgery recovery. Kevin Owens would win the title a week later in a fatal four-way elimination match against Big Cass, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins. There have only been 14 title changes within 8 superstars. Only Brock Lesnar has won the title three times with his first title reign lasting for 504 days. Roman Reigns is currently the champion and is going on 342 plus days and counting. Who can potentially win this title by WrestleMania?

Seth Rollins - He is the man with a vision but somehow cannot find a way to get after the title. He discussed his plan with Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville but was forced to qualify for the Money in the Bank Briefcase. On top of that, he was pushed aside as Edge challenged Roman Reigns. With that in mind, Edge and Rollins will square off at Summerslam. Sooner or later, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns will meet in the middle of the ring for the title. The only other person that can change the outcome of this match to not happen is Big E, the Money in the Bank winner. I predict that Big E will cash in between now and Survivor Series. However, the championship will be the main event at WrestleMania with Rollins and Reigns.

WWE Championship

This title has so much history that dates back to 1963 when it was the WWWF. Buddy Rodgers was the first ever to hold a championship belt. Bruno Sammartino is the longest reigning champion (2,803 days) because superstars in those years performed at least once a week. The title has changed brands 14 times but remains the most elite championship in history. Bobby Lashley is the current WWE Champion. He defeated The Miz in a lumberjack match. He is going on 159 plus days as champion and will compete against Goldberg at Summerslam. But will he remain champion through Wrestlemania?

I do not believe that Lashley will remain champion by the end of the year. There are rumors that Big E may change brands after the WWE draft and cash in the MITB briefcase. If so, Big E could be the guy to still be champion. But, my take is Drew McIntyre. The former two-time champion continues to be the face of the Raw brand. McIntyre won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36 Part 2 with no fans. I hope that there will be fans at the next WrestleMania.

Intercontinental Championship

Apollo Crews is the current Intercontinental Champion. But let's face it, there is no hard value at this point on having the IC title being prestigious. Crews became IC Champ at WrestleMania 37 but has not defended the title in a PPV event. He has defended the title six times during Smackdown on Fox shows. His new rival, Shinsuke Nakamura may be next in line to win the IC title. However, the one superstar I can see holding the title at WrestleMania would be Adam Cole. Of course, Cole would have to decide to sign a contract to remain with WWE and move to the Smackdown roster.

WWE Raw Women's Championship

Becky Lynch is the longest title holder with 373 days. Due to her pregnancy, Asuka became champion by winning the Money in the Bank 2020. The title has changed three times with Nikki A.S.H. the current champion. It does seem that Charlotte may win it again before the year is over. But, Rhea Ripley seems as though she is the promised one to recapture the championship. Depending on the outcome in NXT with Raquel Gonzalez, I do see Gonzalez and Rhea Ripley to co-main event WrestleMania for the Raw title.

WWE Smackdown Women's Championship

On Wrestlemania 37 Night 1, Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks made history by having two female black superstars to main event. Belair would go on and win and become the tenth superstar to win the title. Becky Lynch is the first woman to win this title back on September 11, 2016. Rumor is that she is returning soon. But it is not known when or how. With Seth Rollins in the Smackdown brand, Lynch may be in the same brand (WWE likes to keep couples together). I predict Becky Lynch to be the champion.

WWE United States Champion

Did you know that the United States championship has changed title 171 times. Harley Race was the first superstar defeating Johnny Weaver in a tournament final to become the inaugural NWA United States heavyweight Champion for Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling in 1975. Lex Luger and Ric Flair are the only legendary superstars to win the title five times. Dean Ambrose held the title for 352 days, third from Rick Rude (378 days) and Lex Luger (523 days). Usually, when a superstar loses the US title, they go on to chase a higher title. It is hard to decide who will be the next US champion. I do predict in the near future that Damian Priest can be the next champ but to go on to WrestleMania, I believe a new superstar may come to play. If not, give it to Elias. He does deserve it.

WWE Raw Tag Team Champions

AJ Styles and Omos have been great as champions. But if you look closely, Styles has been the weakest link of the two. Should Randy Orton return and save Riddle, Orton would be the guy to RKO Styles and win the tag team titles. However, the Viking Raiders are the tag team that needs to be recognized over the New Day. At WrestleMania, New Day vs Viking Raiders.

WWE Smackdown Tag team Champions

Besides the Dirty Dawgs (Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode), All other tag team champions since February 2020 have averaged between 60-90 days as title holders. I predict that a new champion can be awarded one month before WrestleMania. I say the Street Profits can become the two-time champion.

WWE Women's Tag Team Champion

Natalya and Tamina are the current tag team champions. Natalya is recovering from a leg injury and may be able to return soon to defend the titles. However, Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox look promising to be the next champions. But Looking to the future for WrestleMania, could Bayley and Sasha Banks reunite and win the titles again? Or have Io Shirai and Zoey Stark?
