WWE Ring Announcer Howard Finkel dies at 69
The iconic, legendary ring announcer and WWE Hall of Famer Howard Finkel died at age of 69.
He began working for Vince McMahon, Sr. in the WWWF in 1975. In 1979, he had become the first employee in the WWF as a lead ring announcer for the biggest events. Finkel is famous for his signature call announcement where he would announce a new champion. He would emphasize the word "new" in which many ring announcers still say today, to draw the greatest reaction from the crowd. According the multiple wrestling community sources, Finkel came up with the event name "WrestleMania" and Ricky Steamboart's nickname "Dragon."
Finkel was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009. #RIPFink
