Zelina Vega Number 1 Contender a Controversy

On Raw, Zelina Vega defeated Mickie James to become the number one contender and square off against WWE Raw Women's Championship, Asuka. After the match, it was made official that it will be held during the Kickoff Show this Sunday, Clash of Champions. But many across social media platforms have the same question - Why is she the number one contender?

Since the call up from NXT to Raw, Bianca Belair has been unbeatable. Against Vega, she is undefeated in singles and group matches. Yet, Belair is doing promos at the gym while Vega is wrestling in two straight weeks. Before this, she just managed Andrade and Angel Garza while being belittled by Belair. The direction for women contenders to chase Asuka has been a boffola.

The WWE Universe were left to believe that Asuka would have defended her title to Shayna Baszler. It was then that Baszler teamed up with Nia Jax in an unprecedented way. Bianca Belair's resume is one of the elite women in the business. She set a record for the most eliminations in the Royal Rumble. She has gone toe to toe with Charlotte Flair and Rhea Riley. Also, she represented the NXT brand during the brand triple threat match at Survivor Series.

Lastly, when many believe Vega may not be the correct person for Clash of Champions, it is Hispanic heritage month. Is this a way to recognize her success? Vega is a great superstar, but her performance is not up to par if you closely match James's match. At the Clash of Champions, we will see only the Empress of Tomorrow to remain the titleholder. And as we wait for Belair to get her opportunity, WWE will keep delaying the inevitable. Maybe Peyton Royce will cut her way through the top.
